The Village of Nivar

Nivar is a mountain village dating from Moorish times with a population of approximately 600 inhabitants. At a height of over 1000m and being built on a ridge it enjoys panoramic views of Sierra Nevada (Snow from October to June) and Granada to the south and the plain of Granada to the North.

Nivar has a supermarket, post office, chemist, hairdresser, 2 restaurants and 2 bars.

The annual fiesta takes place in the week running up to the second Sunday in September. Commemorating the patronal festival of San Cristo de la Salud, this is not for the fainthearted as the band has been known to play till 9 a.m. the next day!. The festivities take place a few yards away from the house, in the square.
